AAAAA
members are eligible to earn the Astronomical League's Messier
Observing Award for observing all objects on the Messier list, or to
participate in any of the AL's many other observing programs. Upon
completion of any of the AL programs and proper certification through
the AAAA, members will be awarded an official Certificate of
Participation, and receive a beautiful lapel pin for each program they
complete.
As a member of the AAAA, not only are you eligible to earn any of
these observing awards, but you will also get your own subscription to
the Astronomical League's newsletter, the REFLECTOR, as well as our own
quarterly newsletter, The American Astronomer.
AAAA Members: When you have completed your Astronomical League
observing projects, submit your observations to AAAA for
certification. Be sure to send copies of your records only. Do NOT
send originals of your observing logs.

These observing programs
are distributed FREE by the Astronomical League and are provided here in
PDF format at no charge as a service to members of the AAAA, the
Astronomical League, and the astronomical community at large. Observing
Programs listed without a PDF must be obtained from Astronomical
League Sales, PO Box 572, West Burlington, IA 52655.
You MUST be a member of the Astronomical League, either through
membership in an affiliated astronomical society or as a
Member-at-Large, to receive certification for AL Observing Programs.
The American Association of Amateur Astronomers is a member
society of the Astronomical League.

Roseann Johnston
Earns Messier Certificate
December 2001 - Roseann Johnston of Vincent, AL, earns the AL's Regular Messier Certificate and pin for observing and logging 80 Messier objects using 10x50 binoculars and a 4.5-inch reflector telescope.
Glenn L. Johnson
Earns Messier Certificate
December 2001 - Glenn Johnson of Denton, TX earns the AL’s Honorary Messier Certificate and pin for observing all 110 objects on the Messier list. Glenn used a 6-inch Newtonian telescope for his observations.
Matthew Andrew
Earns Binocular Messier Certificate
December 2001 - Matthew Andrew of Norwalk, Ohio, earns the AL’s Binocular Messier Certificate and pin for observing 51Messier objects using his Orion Vista 10x50 binoculars.
Leopoldo Andriao, Junior
Earns Binocular Messier Certificate
December 2001 - Leopoldo Andriao, Junior, of Araraquara, Sao Paolo, Brazil, earns the AL’s Binocular Messier Certificate and pin for observing 50 Messier objects using his 10x50 Bushnell binoculars.
Bob Brill Earns
Binocular Messier Certificate
September 2001 - Bob Brill of St. Louis, MO, earned the AL's Binocular Messier Club Certificate for observing and logging over 53 Messier objects using 10x50 binoculars. We are proud of you,
Bob.
John Sayers Earns
Messier Certificate
September 2001 - John Sayers of Lecanto, FL, has observed 70 Messier objects, earning himself the Regular Messier 70 Certificate. John is well on his way to observing all 110 Messier objects. Good luck and congratulations, John.
Paulo Raymundo Earns Four Important Observing Awards
June 2001 - A hearty congratulations goes to Paulo Raymundo from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, for earning three of the Astronomical League’s observing certificates:
Urban Club, Binocular Messier, and Southern Skies Binocular Club. Then to top it all off, Paulo was awarded the
Herschel 400 Certificate, for which he made some of the observations at Cerro Telolo Observatory in Chile. Paulo’s certificates were presented to him by AL Vice President Bob Gent during the Texas Star Party. To quote Mike Benson, who coordinates observing awards for the AL, “This guy is some kind of astronomer!”

Roseann Johnston Earns Deep Sky Binocular and Lunar Certificates
June 2001 - A hearty congratulations to Roseann Johnston of Vincent, Al, for earning both the
Deep Sky Binocular Certificate and the Lunar Club Certificate from the Astronomical League. Roseann used naked eye, 10x50 binoculars, and her 60MM refractor for her observations. Along with the
Binocular Messier and Universe Sampler awards, this makes four observing certificates that Roseann has earned since becoming an AAAA member. Nice job, Roseann. Your enthusiasm and perseverance are contagious.

Johnston of Vincent, AL, for earning both the naked eye and telescopic versions
of the Astronomical League's Universe Sampler. Nice Job, Roseann. We are
proud of you.
