Excited Young Astronomers

Stargazer Steve conducted several workshops for kids. In these workshops, each attendee was able to assemble the parts of a fully working 8-inch Dobsonian telescope.

The Jack Horkheimer award for Excellence by a Young Astronomer was presented to Adam Forte, Vice-President of the Back Bay Astronomical Association in Norfolk, VA. This $1000 award was presented by Don Parker for Jack Horkheimer, who was ill. Darin Stephens of Bushnell Sports Optics presented Adam with a 4-inch Voyager Telescope as part of his prize. Adam also took home the 8-in telescope in the picture as winnter of the grand prize at the Saturday ASTROCON Banquet.

The National Young Astronomer Award was presented to Elizabeth Fernandez of Alberquerque, New Mexico. Meade President John C. Deibel presented the award plaque and citation to Bethand, while Mead Marketing Director Scott Roberts presented a Meade 10-inch LX 200 telescope to Beth as her prize. Beth was also granted a lifetime pass to McDonald Observatory, near Ft. Davis, TX.
