Robotic Internet Telescopes
by Dr. Eric Fleisher, ASKC
Dr. Eric Fleischer, a member of the Astronomical Society of Kansas City, made a
presentation entitled: Visual Based Qualitative Methods for Investigating
Celestial Objects.
In his program, he elaborated upon developed
strategies that allow students to study celestial objects through robotic
Internet based telescopes. Dr. Fleischer highlighted the results of middle
school students and their research with telescopic filters, as well as various
methods used to track comets and asteroids, and to make colored images.
Several interesting deep-sky objects were the
object of the student’s research, including galaxies M51 and M104, and globular
cluster M13. Dr. Fleischer reported that students were especially interested in
locating known comets and deep sky objects using
Starry Night Pro software, and then finding the objects in the telescope.
